Landscape type affects the functional diversity of carabid beetles in agricultural landscapes

چکیده

Agricultural intensification and expansion has been suggested to be a major driver of the loss biodiversity associated ecosystem services. Recent studies have shown that landscape-level effects in addition on-site management are significant importance for insect declines. We here compared carabid beetle (Coleoptera, Carabidae) assemblages wet meadows among three pairs highly fragmented ‘modern’ less ‘traditional’ agricultural landscapes, using pitfall trapping. Taxonomic diversity abundance Carabidae did not differ between modern traditional whereas proportions brachypterous, large-bodied, habitat specialist species were lower landscapes. These results suggest landscape type affects functional rather than taxonomic diversity, based on turnover. To preserve conservation strategies should consider level management, by securing connectivity remnants semi-natural habitats.

Avian Species and Functional Diversity in Agricultural Landscapes: Does Landscape Heterogeneity Matter?

While the positive relationship between avian diversity and habitat heterogeneity is widely accepted, it is primarily based on observed species richness without accounting for imperfect detection. Other facets of diversity such as functional diversity are also rarely explored. We investigated the avian diversity-landscape heterogeneity relationship in agricultural landscapes by considering two ...

Functional landscape heterogeneity and animal biodiversity in agricultural landscapes.

Biodiversity in agricultural landscapes can be increased with conversion of some production lands into 'more-natural'- unmanaged or extensively managed - lands. However, it remains unknown to what extent biodiversity can be enhanced by altering landscape pattern without reducing agricultural production. We propose a framework for this problem, considering separately compositional heterogeneity ...

Even the Smallest Non-Crop Habitat Islands Could Be Beneficial: Distribution of Carabid Beetles and Spiders in Agricultural Landscape

Carabid beetles and ground-dwelling spiders inhabiting agroecosystems are beneficial organisms with a potential to control pest species. Intensification of agricultural management and reduction of areas covered by non-crop vegetation during recent decades in some areas has led to many potentially serious environmental problems including a decline in the diversity and abundance of beneficial art...

Detection of seed DNA in regurgitates of granivorous carabid beetles.

Granivory can play a pivotal role in influencing regeneration, colonization as well as abundance and distribution of plants. Due to their high abundance, nutrient content and longevity, seeds are an important food source for many animals. Among insects, carabid beetles consume substantial numbers of seeds and are thought to be responsible for a significant amount of seed loss. However, the proc...
